Ohio Electrician Exam
Need of a License: Contractors need a license to work in Ohio. There is no statewide licensing of journeyman electricians.
Who Grants a License: Contractor licenses are granted by The Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board.
Qualifications Needed to Receive a License: A candidate must be at least 18 years of age, be a U.S. citizen or legal alien, and must not have been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude.
The candidate must have worked as a tradesperson for at least 5 years and be a registered engineer in Ohio with 3 years’ business experience in the construction industry.
The candidate must pass the examination, pay the applicable fees, and carry a minimum of $500,000 contractor liability coverage.
Exam Requirements: A candidate for a master electrician license must pass the Master Electrician Examination.

The electrical contractor exam is an open-book exam consisting of 50 questions on Business & Law with a time limit of 2 hours and 100 questions on Electrical Contracting with a time limit of 5 hours. A candidate needs at least a 70% grade to pass.
The exam covers the following subject areas:
