Academic Tests
New York Elementary/Intermediate Tests - New York students take a yearly test in math and English from third through eighth grades. They also take a science exam in grades four and eight, and social studies in grades 5 and 8.
New York Regents Exam - High school students are required to pass New York's Regents Exams before they can receive a high school diploma. The exams cover the following subjects: mathematics, science, English, U.S. history, global history and U.S. government. An advanced diploma is available for students who are willing to take more tests.

New York State Teacher Certification Exam - NYSTCE -The New York State Teacher Certification Examination is given to prospective teachers in New York and covers education law and the Commissioner's regulations pertaining to education. The test helps identify which candidates have the requisite knowledge and skill to merit certification.
New York Land Surveyors Testing and Licensing - Land surveyors must pass an exam administered by the New York State Board for Engineering and Land Surveying in addition to the national exams. The exam is administered in April and October of each year and there are strict deadlines for registration. It consists of 50 questions.
New York Massage Therapists Testing and Licensing - New York requires all massage therapists to pass the New York State Massage Therapy Examination in order to be licensed. Of the 140 questions on the test, over half concern application of massage methods, while the rest focus on patient assessment, planning, responsibilities, laws, regulations, ethics and other relevant subjects.
New York Shorthand Reporters Testing and Certification - Shorthand reporters in New York must pass a five-part exam before receiving their certification. The exam consists of a transcription test, an oral test, a medical reporting test, an English test and a test of terminologies and procedures. The test is held once a year on the last Friday in June.
New York Real Estate Agents Exams and LIcensure - New York requires all real estate agents to pass an exam before being licensed. The exam is based on the contents of the required pre-licensing course. It is a multiple-choice test and applicants have 90 minutes to complete it. A score of at least 70 percent is required to pass.
New York Barbers Testing and Licensing - Barbers must pass a practical examination to receive a license. The fee to take the exam is $15. The exam consists of a demonstration of hair cutting techniques, shaving, shampooing, facial massage, professional appearance, proper preparation of the work area and client, and clean-up procedures. The exam lasts 75 minutes.
New York Notary Publics Tests and Licensing - Notary publics have to pass a written exam administered by the Secretary of State's office. It consists of questions on laws and the functions of a notary public. Each candidate has one hour to complete the test, a score of 70 percent is required to pass and candidates receiver their scores by mail.
Driver's Tests
New York Driving Tests - Anyone who has never held a license must take a road test to be licensed in New York. Before someone can take the road test he or she has to get a learner's permit and pass a driver's education or pre-licensing course. New residents with a license are exempted from testing.
New York Motorcycle Tests - New York drivers who would like to obtain a motorcycle license must pass a written test and a road skills test after obtaining a learner's permit. The road skills test can be waived if the applicant completes a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course.
