The Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) is used by the New York City school system to evaluate students for admission to the cities' specialized high schools. The test is offered to eighth and ninth graders in the late summer or early fall for the following school year. Students have until February to make a decision on the schools to which they will apply. A free program is offered by the New York Specialized High School Instutute to help students prepare for and take the test.
