To become licensed to teach in the state of California, teacher candidates are required to take the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). The CBEST is taken in addition to the Praxis exam. The CBEST evaluates a teacher’s skills in reading, math and writing to determine a candidates mastery of the subject area, not to evaluate teaching skills.
